The web is suggesting that you freeze them................there is quite a bit on the web about them.  I only like them roasted on an open fire but my friend boiled her's and cut the shell then roasted them in her black caste iron frying pan with a lid.  The smell was wonderful.  When we were kids, the whole family would take the train to downtown Philadelphia to Gimble's shopping store on Market St and see their moving window of Christmas..........just beautiful.........and on the street corners were vendor's selling chestnuts that they roasted over charcoal.........they were just delicious....and very hot...........we were young and we did not know that they were the best days to remember in the late 40's & 50's.  That store was taken over by another store and never the same.  We got older and we never went down there anymore.  No place to park and crowded on the El.
