How to pickle plums

When I add golden plums to strong brine solution, after 2 weeks the top part of the brine gets cloudy with a sort of white crust like solids floating in the brine. It does not look like a mold or fungus, more like a combination of salt anf fruit juices. Does anyone know what this crust is made of?

sorry, I never heard of pickled plums,,,,sounds like salt on the top................we only canned them with simple syrup...............you need a proven recipe........
