How to make a dessert called "creamed rice" or "rice cream" - like granny used to make?

Think I need to use, rice, milk, salt, vanilla essence & sugar but can't remember quantities or timing?
Thanks for any help out there... 3 months having given up smoking and really need some of my Nana's comfort food - don't worry.. I need fattening up too! LOL!

Put two cups of whole mile in a saucepan.  Add 1/4 cup of plain white rice.  Pinch of salt.  One table spoon sugar.  Bring to simmer and lower heat.  Cook till milk is absorbed in rice.  Maybe 30 min.  Take our a bite to check for doneness.  I rice is not soft and the mixture is dry.  Add more milk.  This is very forgiving.  Add one tesaspoon of vanilla if you like.

Serve in bowl with borwn sugar or cinnamon and sugar and cream.  I can't decide which one I like best.  This is the way my mom made it.  It is easy, no eggs, no baking, etc.

you also can used left over rice and add to pan pour milk to cover and stay there keep stirring & stirring and adding milk as need to be creamy....add enough sugar to sweeten and taste....is the rice real soft & mushy......turn it off and move it over to a cold burner add a little vanilla and chopped nuts & which ever dried chopped fruit that you like.  Stir it several times and let it cool down before refrigerating.  Some like to add a little milk when serving, some like cream, added spices or even a scoop of ice cream.
