how to peel chestnuts

Raw chestnuts have a tough outer peel.  Peeling cold is fiddly work and there must be an easy way to do it.

My friend in Philadelphia showed me a way that she boiled them just enough to soften the shell and then one by one she cut the shell at the top and then put them single layer in her caste iron pan with a lid to roast them.  They were the best.
