what is the origin of tembleque?

I know that tembleque is thought to have originated in Puerto Rico, but I cannot find anything else on the desert's origins. Does anyone know anything about the history of tembleque? I need to know more about it for my 3rd grade son's project! Thank you!!

I think if you discover the history of the cloves, coconut & nutmeg, you will find your mystery of the dessert.  I have a feeling it from the Middle East.
